Mike Phillips
Mike was born in Ridgewood NJ and raised in Towaco NJ. In 1987
he began snowboarding for some companies as a pro-form rider.
One year later, became a flow rider. In 1995 began competing professionally
for Never Summer Snow boards, Burton boots and bindings, Arnette
Optics, Concept Clothing, Specialty Sports skate and snowboard
Shop, Mountain Creak Resort, Intra West, Pepsi co., Duffs Shoes
and Kue Wax. Later changing to Nitro snowboards (all others are
the same). Through all the years of competition, He had various
injuries; Dislocations in both shoulders, rolled both ankles,
broken tail bone, dislodged and broken ribs, broken elbow with
a screw in it, dislocated jaw, fractured scull, and dislocated
knees. Although he was told that his knees had to be replaced,
due to a partial tear in the ACL, PCL, and a bruised meniscus
(from the dislocation), He refused to undergo surgery due to how
bad off people are with replacement surgeries. Looking for a way
to rebuild his knees, he found pilates. This opened the door for
Mike to rebuild his whole body. He has now rid himself of asthma,
arthritis, neck pain, back pain, and still has his own knees.
He has had a great success in helping his clients meet and some
times exceed their goals for a pain free life.
Mike had obtained his certifications from PCC in Raleigh, NC
and then in Feb 2004, opened The Core - A Pilates Studio.
The Core’s goal is to help others keep their own original
parts, relieve pain, straighten scoliosis, re-hab surgeries, etc.
This is why only Instructors with the best education and techniques
are hired. All of the Instructors, including Mike are required
to have 14 hours of continuing education each year.
Fleming
Lomax
Fleming Lomax began dancing at a young age in her hometown of
Goldsboro, NC. She trained with Goldsboro Ballet and continued
her training in high school at the North Carolina School of the
Arts. She was awarded the katherine Smith Reynolds Scholarship
to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received
the Virginia Moomaw Award for dance Theory and performance. In
1994 she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science
in Dance Education. Fleming then accepted a position on the dance
faculty at Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida
where she taught for five years. She relocated to Colorado in
1999 to pursue performance opportunities; she performed for two
years with Kim Robards Dance, a modern dance company, and then
performed with Ballet Nouveau Colorado for four years. Her lifelong
involvement in the art of movement sparked her interest in Pilates.
She was drawn to the methods because of how it empowers her in
the understanding of the body's musculature and efficiency. She
was accepted into the training program at the prestigious Pilates
Center of Boulder, a world renowned facility which trains students
from South Africa, Israel, Canada and the USA. She completed an
intense year-long program of study and an internship at the facility
prior to moving back to North Carolina. She now resides in Asheville
NC, teaching dance and Pilates. Joseph Pilates stated that his
work "develops the body uniformly, corrects posture, restores
physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit."
Fleming hopes to share his vision with clients through her work
at The Core.
